VoiceXML Software Platforms - International Directory
IVR systems typically comprise a chassis, circuit cards, an operating system and software, akin to a compiler, which supports and drives the IVR application. Although there are a number of commercial software products that provide this compiler layer, sometimes referred to as a development toolkit, most IVR suppliers use software they have developed themselves. Some are very user friendly whereas some are very cryptic, but whenever a using organisation replaced one IVR platform with another, to the extent the application is to be reused, it must be recoded.
To address this, the VoiceXML Forum has developed VoiceXML, a standard for the coding of IVR applications. VoiceXML is usually associated with the deployment of speech recognition applications, whether within an IVR or for some other application, although VoiceXML can be used for DTMF-only IVR applications. With the advent of VoiceXML, a number of companies have developed VoiceXML software which is able to be deployed by developers of IVR systems as well as by developers of other applications of speech recognition technology.
This directory is of developers of VoiceXML software. In contrast to other Internet sites that purport to be directories of VoiceXML software, this directory does not include any integrators, consultants, conference organisers, magazines, distributors or providers of products related to VoiceXML. Every one of the companies listed has developed the VoiceXML software listed therein - they are not integrators or incorporators of VoiceXML software developed by others. Furthermore, although there are other products that support VoiceXML, this directory is of VoiceXML software products, not of all products that support or otherwise comply with VoiceXML.
